Bhandari, September 27 (DIPR): The long awaited Bhandari Town Council was launched by PB Acharya, Governor of Nagaland at the town hall, Bhandari on September 26.
Speaking as the chief guest, the Governor said that as women are second to none they should be a part of policy and decision making in the society and encouraged them to freely avail the opportunities given to them in the changing times.
“Women can make progressive steps and take decisions to usher in corruption less leadership, administration and development regardless of time and situation in our democratic and secular state, where developmental achievements will greatly define the maturity of any society,” he added. He also said that the fruit of independent India should be attainment of progress and development for all. The Governor further observed that while many land owners obstruct developmental works by demanding more and more compensation from the government, it was commendable that the people of the sub-division have given their land at free of cost for road constructions in their areas for public purpose.
“Peace is the most essential factor for all round growth and development for any society, and we need to respect our unity in diversity, engaging ourselves in hard work to bring out the best resources to eradicate corruption, poverty and diseases,” he said. The Governor also expressed discouragement that despite having rich and fertile land with abundant natural resources, people tend to lack hard work and depend on outside resources which may prevent the people to tap their potentials and generate wealth for themselves and others also.
The Governor also observed that the reason why wealth and prosperity is concentrated with few hands is because of corruption and lack of hard work and stressed on the need of the people to be empowered by knowledge and open their minds to create a self-sufficient golden Nagaland, he further called upon the students as enlightened community that once they come out of universities, they should become accountable and responsible citizens and be job givers rather than job seekers with the empowerment of knowledge for social progress. He also encouraged them to take pride in their cultures, heritage and identity and not be carried away by the imposing changes in the name of civilisation.
Parliamentary Secretary, Labour and Employment, Skill Development and Border Affairs, Mhonlumo Kikon in his welcome address pointed out that Bhandari sub division with 76 villages is considered as the most backward area under Wokha district in terms of development. He also stated that proposal was sent to the government of Nagaland for creation of EAC head- quarter in Yanthamo which is a genuine need of the area. He further stressed that Bhandari sub divisional planning and development board should be granted to enable the sub division to carry out the developmental works more effectively.
During the programme Don Bosco Higher Secondary School Bhandari sang the national anthem while welcome song was presented by Bhandari Town Eloe Hoho. The memorial stone, which was unveiled by the Governor earlier in the programme, was dedicated by Pastor, Baptist Church Bhandari town, Abemo Patton.
