DIMAPUR, MARCH 14 (MExN): Jointly condemning the murder of a housewife reportedly by security forces, the Naga Women Union Manipur and Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights (South) has demanded immediate inquiry into the Khoibu Khullen killing incident. Moikham Shinglai was killed by the Indian Security Force at close range and her 14 month old baby boy is still in the custody of the Indian Para-Military Camp at Laimakhong undergoing medical operation of bullet wounds, the organizations said.
“The incident of Noney in Tamenglong district on November 19, 2005, where a four member family (father, son, daughter-in-law, including an 8 month old baby boy) were killed at their own backyard while trying to seek safe protection during an encounter between Indian Security Force and suspected NSCN (K) cadres (while cease-fire is still on) is also one good example that the Indian Security Forces are all out targeting the helpless and innocent civilians whom they are suppose to protect,” they said.
Nagas have suffered enough for more than 50 years and this cannot continue in any form. The NWUM and NPMHR(S) have therefore called upon all armed groups- both state and out of state- to respect human right values. “The Maring area in Chandel is now fast becoming a hot bed for valley-based insurgents causing fear and panic amongst the innocent civilians, there has also been reports of landmine/IEDs casualties where the victims were not allowed to report or face dire consequences.”
The organizations have also condemned the molestation of a woman named Noabi by Manipur commando police.
