DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 29 (MExN): The Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW) has stated that it was at a loss for words on hearing the outright rejection of the Nagaland Government on 33% reservation of seats for women in the civic bodies. Pointing out that India is the world’s largest democracy, and women amount to more than half of the population, the NSCW stated that all important decisions that impact the larger population should first be studied in its entirety. Only then can decisions be made with better understanding and comprehension, so as to enhance greater harmony in society, a press note stated issued by Sano Vamuzo, Chairperson and members Abeni TCK and Ellen Konyak.
It stated that all along, the NSCW had been anticipating a “wise and matured response from our representatives in the matter”. “But once again the cry of women for recognition of their God-given and constitutional right has been stunted, which pushes back Naga women to a form of slavery because women constitute almost 50% of Naga population”, it stated while adding that “Naga women are questioning: Where is our Christianity? Our democracy? Our education?”
