Women encouraged to be bold for change

Dimapur, March 27 (MExN): In a belated celebration, Assisi Centre for Integrated Development (ACID) observed International Women’s Day along with domestic workers, Self Help Groups (SHGs) and Joint Liability Groups (JLGs) from Dimapur district and Assam’s Karbi Anglong district who are under the wings of Ursuline Franciscan Sisters at Assisi Hall, Lakeview Colony, Dimapur on March 25.  

Held with the theme ‘Be Bold for Change’, the celebration aimed to motivate women for change and to acknowledge the contribution made by women in the family and society at large, according to a press release.  

Sr. Pramila Lobo, Director of ACID welcomed the participants quoting, “Women are the architect of the society, a change for maker, builder of the family.” She also urged the women to be bold for change and to see for themselves how great things happen when women work together as one family.  

Chief guest Liangsi, Advocate, spoke on ‘Role of Women in the Family and Society.’ Urging the women to be role models, she emphasized that women have power to bring changes in the society. She also motivated the women to promote education to their children.  

Nikita Engheepi, Program Officer, TISS enlightened on legal provisions available for women and promoted knowledge on Sexual Harassment Act.  

Meanwhile, guest of honor Rev. Sr. Mary CJ, Provincial Superior of Ursuline Franciscan Sisters of NE Province encouraged the women to work hand in hand to promote their rights and to stand by themselves in order to be empowered women, the release said.  

The women participants were empowered and also received opportunity to express and exhibit their talents through cultural programme, it added.
