Phek, October 16 (MExN): Krishi Vigyan Kendra Phek, ICAR-NRC on Mithun organized the Mahila Kisan Divas involving members of different SHGs and students of GHS, Porba at KVK Training Hall, Porba on October 15. A total of 55 beneficiaries participated in the gathering.
Dr T Esther Longkumer, ACTO & KVK Incharge in her welcome address appealed the women farmers to sustain the farming and other related activities and briefed the objective of the programme with a presentation on importance of women in agriculture. Liza B. Bharali, ACTO spoke about local germplasm preservation and a film on preservation of local seeds was screened.
The programme was graced by Veshetsolu, Headmistress, Government High School, Porba. She emphasized on linkage of farmers, research institute, NGOs and policy makers for holistic development in the field of agriculture and allied sector. She stressed on the importance of double cropping as it will lead to doubling of income. She encouraged the gathering for saving culture to be improved in terms of seed, money so as to improve our socio-economic sector.
Students of GHS, Porba and women farmers participated in drawing competition and extempore speech competition respectively on the theme ‘Role of women in agriculture.’ The winners were given prizes during the award ceremony. An exhibition showcasing on agriculture and allied sectors was also arranged on the occasion.
