Women folk called to focus on children's education

Kohima, January 31 (DIPR): Speaking as the chief guest at the annual conference of the Angamimiapfü Mechü Krotho AMK (Angami Women Organisation) on January 31, Ex-Chief Minister of Nagaland and President, Ura Academy, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu called upon the women folk to properly educate their children saying their role as mother is very important in shaping the lives and future of their children. In this connection, he also said that children spend 4 to 5 hours at school but they spend 20 hours with their mother and with these precious hours spent with their mother, children should be taught values of life.  

Dr. Liezietsu highlighted on the need to preserve one’s own cultural identity inspite of the fact that there are many changes in our society with the modern world, one has to abide by his or her own culture and traditions, he added. He stressed on the need to look back at the past particularly the women folk and mother to teach their children with the winnowing and pounding of rice and to teach them with the weaving skills as traditions.  

Stressing on the importance of one’s roots, Dr. Shürhozelie said that if we forget all our past and only look at the future, things may go wrong. Hence, he said it is important to look at the past and adopt the good practices and move towards the future. He also dwelt on the need to preserve mother tongue and cautioned against frequent use of Nagamese. However, he encouraged on learning and use of English.  

Finance Secretary of APO Kevisekho Khro also gave a brief word of greeting and sought for the continuous support of women folk.  

Brief reports were given by the General Secretary, AMK, Kevinguno Meyase and the Convenor Audit Committee, Medoselhou Keretsü.  

A new team of AMK office bearer for the session (2018 - 2020) was also elected with President- Kevinourheno Seyie; Vice Presidents - Kevino Kuotsu, Alebu Sanchu; General Secretary - Shürheivino Nakhro; Joint Secretary - Mengukhrienuo Kuotsu; Treasurer - Vakrale Naleo; Finance Secretary - Videnuo Tsürho; Property Secretary - Atole Khatso; Advisor - Ruokuoheü Miachieo.
