Wokha | May 27 : Hundreds of women folks from various walks of life attended the protest rally held here today at Wokha Town against the rape attempt of a minor girl on May 23 last. The rally was jointly organized by Kyong Eloe Hoho and Kyong Students’ Union. Women folks attended the rally carrying placards with slogans such as “No leniency towards the accused”, “Administer fair dealing”, “We condemn inhuman act”, “Rapist have no place in our society”, “Stop Rape”, “Justice should be delivered to the minor girl”, etc.
Chairperson KEH Thungjano Tsanglao briefed the gatherings on the cause of the gathering and said that the timely intervention of a boy who informed the victim’s parents saved the life of the victim which may have resulted in a worse situation. While condemning the act she also conveyed sympathy and solace to the victim and her parents adding that role of a women/mother at home is vital in counseling their children, as humble and motivator women holds the pride of a society.
President of Kyong Hoho Yansathung Jami in his brief address denounced the act stating that the number of rape and murder case is growing in Nagaland. Jami urged the gathering not to shy away from such injuries and to come out in the open and fight against such crimes as it only encourages the rapist. Recalling the incident of May 23, where the minor girl was physically assaulted and molested, Jami said it is a taboo to do such evils especially on minor girls and appealed all the right thinking citizens to condemn such act.
President Kyong Students’ Union (KSU) Subenthung Kithan while denouncing the act also said “today it might have happened on minor girl of nine and half years, while a year ago one girl was raped and murdered by non-locals at Ralan area under Wokha district and tomorrow it might be anybody’s daughter or sister”. Kithan questioned whether the men folks have respect for women adding “we honor our mothers by celebrating mothers’ day”, that signifies every women to be respected. He appealed the gatherings to unite and work together to eradicate this kind of evil act in the society.
Meanwhile KSU also disclosed that KSU in coordination with police administration will pay constant surprise checking in the internet cafes, CD libraries galleries as random sell of pornography movie encourages a “would be rapist.”
