Women living with HIV&AIDS to get nutritional support

1400 reported cases of infected women in Nagaland

Kohima, July 20 (MExN): The department of Women Development recently launched the ‘Nutritional Support to Women Living with HIV&AIDS programme’ on June 6 last. Under this programme, rice, dal and vegetable ghee will be allotted to beneficiaries. As per records provided by the NSACS, there are approximately 1400 reported cases of women living with HIV and AIDS in Nagaland.

“While the concerned agencies have been providing medication for treatment of HIV&AIDS patients, the nutritional aspects of their treatment are often neglected. Most of the patients are so undernourished that they are not able to withstand the effect of the treatment provided and the efficacy of the drugs is greatly reduced due to their poor nutritional status,” the release said, adding that in order to address such issues, the department had launched the Nutritional Scheme for women living with HIV and AIDS on June 6 during the Road Show at Longleng.

To avail nutritional support, all women living with HIV and AIDS in the state from below poverty line (BPL) households have been requested to register themselves with the District Level Networks of NNP+. For Mon and Longleng districts, the affected women have been requested to register their names with the Yingli Mission, Longleng, and the Walo Organization, Mon. Appropriate coding system will be adopted to protect client confidentiality, a release received here informed.
