members of the NPF women wing of 18th Chozuba Assembly Constituency today took to the street here with banners and placards demanding party ticket to its member Sano Vamuzo, also chairperson of Nagaland Women Commission, for the forthcoming assembly elections.

Around fifty members of the NPF Women Wing from 18 Chozuba A/C first gathered in front of the Red Cross building at around 9.30 and carrying banners and placards later march silently to the residence of the then PS to former Home Minister Thenucho and again to meet former Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio.

It is learnt that the members of the NPF Women Wing of 18th Chozuba A/C staged the rally to express is displeasure against the former Home Minister for his alleged manipulation. The women  are demanding ‘justice’ from the party by giving the party ticket for the coming election to the lone woman applicant for the party’s ticket.

“Thenucho’s signature campaign done without women consent”, a banner read. “Women rights is human rights”, “Give us what is ours”, “We are asking for only one seat out of 60,” “ We want justice,” “We want to be heard” other placards cried out. Later talking to media persons, Sano Vamuzo alleged that former Home Minister Thenucho had carried out a signature campaign from the NPF village unit under 18th Chozuba A/C soon after her declaration to contest in the forthcoming election sometimes in September last.  She said, in the signature campaign through a simple format, the NPF village unit presidents were asked to choose between Thenucho or Sano Vamuzo to which all village units voted in favor of the former.

Sano alleged that the campaign was carried out without the consent of the party women who consist of more than fifty percent of voters in the constituency.

She also went on to allege that Thenucho had failed to fulfill any of his promises to the people of the constituency, which continues to remain backward. He promised the villagers to carry forward the works initiated by late Vamuzo and also to give special attentions to the lots of widows in the constituency and the state, but he has done nothing, she alleged.

Further, she expressed her surprised that Thenucho failed to pay any attention to women. Moreover, after coming to power, he is not accessible to the people those who had voted him to power, she added.

Further, she clarified that she is only fighting for justice and not only for her and the constituency but for Naga women as well. “If am denied ticket, it’ll be too selfish on the part of man and that’s injustice”, she said and vowed that she will fight for her right till the end.

In this democratic country, if women didn’t fight for their right who will fight for them, she said.

Further, she regretted that in the 45 years of Nagaland statehood, not a single woman has come to the state assembly and asked as to what is wrong with the Naga society. “In this respect, Nagas are still far behind while the rest of the country is talking of 33 per cent reservation for women whereas here we’re asking only for one seat”. Meanwhile, she also declared she was fighting for an NPF ticket and was determined to get the ticket.
