Dimapur, November 25 (MExN): A Women Resource Centre under the Department of Women Resource Development (WRD) was inaugurated by WRD Director Vilone Sakhrie on November 23 with the aim to bring about bring socio-economic empowerment of women in the district.
According to a DIPR report received here on Friday, while inaugurating the Centre, Sakhrie informed the gathering that the inauguration was delayed due to the pandemic and post-pandemic difficulties. Nevertheless, he assured that various women-centric programmes and activities would be implemented as per the needs and requirements of the District in due course of time.
Sakhrie also applauded the Department’s long partnership with the Watsu Mungdang for implementing various programmes in the District. Sensing the need to upgrade the skills and activities of the women in the district, he further assured that, various collaborative activities will be charted and implemented in line with the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two parties.
On the occasion, President of Watsu Mungdang S Arenla Longkumer elaborated on how the concept of the Women Resource Centre, Mokokchung was conceived and pursued by Watsu Mungdang. She elaborated on the vision of Watsu Mungdang about the future programmes and activities to be taken up, the DIPR report stated.
During the closing remarks, T Thungbemo Patton, WRDO & Officer In-Charge Mokokchung, informed that the basic foundation of cooperation between the Department and Watsu Mungdang would be based on the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two parties on February 20, 2020 in the Office Chamber of Commissioner & Secretary, Women Resource Development. He also informed that apart from the clause reflected in the MoU for the mutual benefit of both the parties to bring socio-economic empowerment in Nagaland; both parties would work together in various areas in the future. The inaugural programme was followed by the training of 30 beneficiaries on post-harvest, processing, and value addition under the initiatives of Nzanthung K Yanthan, Assistant Director & Officer in charge of Food Processing, the report stated.
