
Dimapur, June 25 (MExN): A month-long training on silk weaving on fly shuttle loom and natural silk dyeing ended on June 18 in Dimapur. The training, organized by the Department of Sericulture, was held at the Common Facility Center, Kiyeto village.
Six participants from three SHGs took part in the training that taught them silk weaving on the fly shuttle loom along with dyeing of silk using natural products such as teak leaves, turmeric, betel nut, tea leaves etc, according to a press release received here.
The training was held keeping in mind that women play an important role in sericulture – from cultivation of silkworm food plant to reeling and weaving of silk. “The objective of this training was to impart these vocational skills to women involved in sericulture so as to enable them to be financially independent through this enterprise,” the release added.
Extension Officer Melino Neikha, Master weaver Junaki Girisa, and weavers Shohita and Bohamti were the resource persons. Extension Officer Mayangjala Walling was the training observer during the one month training period.
