Dimapur | November 1

A total of 20 women weavers from Dimapur successfully completed the one-month ‘Design Development training workshop’ for weavers organized by Rashtriya Gramin Vikas Nidhi (RGVN) and Export-Import Bank (EXIM Bank).

The trainees were awarded certificates at a valedictory programme held here at Hotel Acacia on Wednesday afternoon.   Deputy Director, Ministry of Micro Small Medium Enterprise (MSME), Er. Tali Longchar, who graced the valedictory function as guest of honour, informed the weavers of the various schemes under the Ministry, including special schemes for ST/SC entrepreneurs to participate in international fairs and exhibitions.

Stressing on the need for setting up cluster development schemes in the state, Tali however said due to financial constraints faced by the state, things have not progressed as desired. He said it was of paramount importance for the government to give platform to weavers to sell their products, which he said is lacking in the North East Region.

He also said the local weavers and artisans have to upgrade and innovate their designs as per needs and demand of the time. On the upcoming trade expo at Agri Expo site starting November 24, the Deputy Director MSME informed the weavers that MSME would be sponsoring fifty stalls and urged the weavers to avail the opportunity to exhibit and sell their products. He however reminded that interested weavers must register themselves with the district industry centres (DICs) to avail the same.

Assistant Director (HR & Admin) RGVN, UR Dutta, highlighted on ‘RGVN’s journey’ and Assistant Director, NER, RGVN, gave an introduction of the programme.

Deputy General Manager, EXIM Bank, Ashish Kumar, gave away certificates to the successful trainees, followed by interaction session with trainees and master trainers.

Local trainers of the one month programme included Er. Ninoto Zhimomi (Textile engineer), I Pangerla (Textile designer), Abeli Zhimomi (Fashion designer), and Martha.

Director, Community Development Foundation, K Henry Heshu, proposed vote of thanks.
