
DIMAPUR, JUNE 5 (MExN): The first day of the Women’s Champions Trophy underway in Dimapur today saw wins for Saramati Warriors, Tiyi Strikers and Puliebadze Slingers.
In the 1st match Saramati Warriors defeated Japfü Dazzlers by 6 wickets.
Having won the toss Japfü Dazzlers elected to bat first and their two opening batswoman in the form of Najmeen 22 runs and Alemienla 48 runs combined to give them a solid headstart with a partnership of 63 runs. Later Bipila and Alamlie also contributed with a score of 10 and 13 respectively for the Japfü Dazzlers to set a target of 123 runs.
Sariba Khan, Temjenmongla Jamir and Mhasibeinuo Rupreo took 1 wicket each for the Saramati Warriors.
In the run chase for the Saramati Warriors contributions from Jyoti Thapa 22 runs, Vipeni 9 runs, Mhasibeinuo Rupreo 24 runs, Sariba Khan 18 runs and Watinaro Pongen 10 runs stitched up a comfortable win by 6 wickets in only 16.5 over. Talirenla and Alemienla managed to take 1 wicket each for the Japfü Dazzlers.
The player of the match was awarded to Mhasibeinuo Rupreo of Saramati Warriors for her 24 runs knock and 1 wicket claim.
In the 2nd match of the day at Nagaland Cricket Stadium Tiyi Strikers opted to bat first after winning the toss and their captain Sentilemla led from the front and scored a majestic 88 runs in 78 balls which was studded with 15 boundaries (4's) however from the other end she could not find much support as Sangtinaro took 3 wickets, Kajenkala took 2 wickets while Merensola and Rwisumwi picked up a wicket each for Pauna Queens to restrict Tiyi strikers at 133 runs losing 7 wickets in 25 overs.
Kajenkala 18 runs and Rwisumwi 26 runs were the only notable scorers for the Pauna Queens in the run chase as the rest of the batswoman couldn't contribute much and they were bowled all out in 19.1 overs with only 91 runs on the board. Roma Subha led the bowling attack for the Tiyi strikers by picking up 4 wickets and was well supported by Soyimkumla who also picked up 3 wickets while Tsukenshe and Sentilemla managed to get a wicket each thus winning their first match against the Pauna Queens by 42 runs.
The player of the match was adjudged to Sentilemla for her captain's knock of 88 runs and 1 wicket claim.
Meanwhile at Sovima Cricket Ground, Puliebadze Slingers won over Terogvu Titans by 6 wickets in the only match at the SCG.
Having won the toss and elected to bat first Terogvu Titans managed to set a target of 103 runs in the stipulated 25 overs for the Slingers to chase down. Limatola, the captain of Terogvu Titans scored her side's highest runs with 26 but could not find good support at the other end. Sarah and Imsusenla could however help their side with 9 runs each to leave a competitive total of 102 runs on the board. Lydia T Muru the captain of the Puliebadze Slingers along with Meriyani Kikon scalped 2 wickets each while Priyanka and Sungjemmenla took a wicket each.
In the run chase Puliebadze Slingers managed to reach the target of 103 runs in just 14.1 overs with contributions from Illuneule 23 runs, Priyanka 16 runs, Meriyani Kikon 15 runs while Lydia T Muru 12 runs and Mukti 7 runs who remained not out steered their team home for a comfortable win. For the Terogvu Titans Limatola, Imsusenla, Sarah and Magdalin pulled out a wicket each but could not stop them from facing their first defeat.
The player of the match was awarded to Meriyani Kikon of Puliebadze Slingers for taking 2 wickets and scoring 15 runs.
