Jubilant over the “retirement” of N. Kaimang Chang, NPF candidate of Tuensang Sadar II, H. Wongto said that he was now sure of a grand victory. The candidate also expressed relief that the movement of the citizens of Tuensang village, which had previously been divided between the two candidates, would not need to be regulated with roll calls every night. However Wongto was quick to assure that there had been no threats to the people’s right to vote and that the election would be a peaceful one with no underground involvement.

If elected in the bye-election, Wongto said that he had lots of plans to develop Tuensang Sadar II and his priorities would be the communication problem, water shortage and educational difficulties. “We also badly need an EAC post here,” he said, adding that even if the time was very brief, he would try to implement some changes within the 8 to 10 months before the general election.

Despite his new found confidence, H. Wongto admitted that he was wary of Rakhila, the wife of late Lakhiumong. “I am afraid of her because she has money,” he offered in explanation but he dismissed the Congress candidate saying that Kejong would not get more than 100 votes from Tuensang village which was the biggest village in the district with more than 5000 votes.

Wongto confirmed his intention to contest from the same constituency in the general election but expressed uncertainty if he would do so from the same party.
