The veteran director has cast the pop star in his new upcoming Amazon TV series alongside Elaine May, Deadline reports. Not much else is known about the series, except that it takes place in the 1960s and will also star Allen – who wrote the script and is directing. Shooting reportedly begins in March. News of the series first broke last year, with Allen remarking of his transition to TV, “I don’t know how I got into this. I have no ideas and I’m not sure where to begin. At the time, he was prepping his latest film, “Irrational Man,” which starred Emma Stone and Joaquin Phoenix. That film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and opened in July 2015, but only took in a little more than $4 million at the box office, according to Box Office Mojo. For Cyrus, her career in TV and film has mostly been confined to late-night shows and award ceremony appearances recently, but she logged time for years on “Hannah Montana,” a popular Disney tween show that ran from 2006 to 2010. Since then, she has had a successful pop career, while courting controversy. Her latest release is “Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz,” an album she made with the Flaming Lips. She gave it away for free the day after she hosted the MTV Video Music Awards in August.
