Work order issued for construction of Kohima Medical College

Nagaland’s Governor PB Acharya today said that the work order for construction of Medical College at Kohima has already been issued and all necessary steps will be taken to ensure that the aspirations of people for a medical college will be a reality.


In his address to the 3rd session of 13th NLA here, he said that ensuring proper health care for all people is an important priority for PDA government.


For food safety, the health department carried out vigorous checks on quality of food products, adulteration and use of harmful chemicals for preservation by vendors, he said.


Such eye opening measures should henceforth, keep the consumers vigilant, as a movement for Eat Right, Eat Safe and Eat Healthy, he said.


For better health care, he said, the state government has signed an MoU for establishment of a National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Branch at Dimapur.


He said that the Measles Rubella Vaccination Campaign achieved 97.80% of the target due to coordinated efforts of the health department personnel and positive support of the public and institutions.


The upgraded new hospital at Kiphire was inaugurated on November 9, 2018. Two integrated AYUSH Hospitals – 30 bedded at Noklak and 10 bedded at Dimapur was made fully functional in 2018. Another two AYUSH Hospitals at Razha Chedema in Kohima and Sabangya under Mokokchung are under construction.


Last year, 60 renowned doctors visited Nagaland and organized 8 health camps for free diagnosis 1, and treatment of people.

To ensure doubling of farmers’ incomes

“We are an agrarian society and our key focus has been to ensure doubling of farmers’ incomes with special thrust on organic farming, horticulture, animal husbandry, coffee production and sericulture,” Governor said.


He recalled that Nagaland was recently awarded the best Horticulture State at the 11th Global Agriculture, Leadership Award, 2018 for using innovative ideas to transform the horticultural activities in the state.


And also recently awarded as the Best Eri Silk producing state by Government of India.


Stating that focus on organic farming will help our farmers move up the value chain, he said “We have to see that our organic food gets a good market and growers/farmers are economically strengthened.”


He said that the state government have launched the FOCUS — Fostering Climate Resilient Upland Agriculture System Project in association with International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD) with the objective of improving farming in the state.


I&C dept launches NSSH to support entrepreneurs

Governor informed that Industries and Commerce Department has launched the National Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe Hub (NSSH) on February 15 this year.


This Scheme provides professional support to SC/ST entrepreneurs under the Central Govt. Procurement Policy Order, 2012, he said.


Under the policy exhibition and Trade Fair, Vendor Development Programmes, Workshops/Seminars and Awareness programmes, Skill Development and Training Programmes shall be taken up in all the Districts of the state.


STPI on advanced stage of completion

Governor maintained that Information Technology is a sector that has great potential for Nagaland state in creating jobs for youth.


He said that Software Technology Park of India (STPI) is at an advanced stage of completion, stating that once it is completed, it will encourage local entrepreneurs and also help promote and boost Software Exports.


He said that Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) Centre is being constantly upgraded and now it is handling International business. GIS has been our strength and “we seek to establish a Centre for Excellence for GIS in the state that will help our GIS centre to provide GIS services to the entire North Eastern region.”


He said that the Common Service Centres (CSCs) of the state have been ranked 1st in the country in the “National Annual Khata Target Achievement” by the Government of India and Dimapur District is ranked 1st in the country.


The Common Service Centres (CSCs) Nagaland have also had the distinction of being ranked 5th in the Country by the Government of India for delivery of “Tele Law” services and 1st Rank for delivery of “Health Homeo” services.


A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed with e-Governance Academy of Estonia for setting up of eGovernance Academy of Nagaland (eGAN).
