Kohima, April 27 (NEPS): The Leader of the Opposition I Imkong expressed serious concern on the slow pace of the peace process between the Government of India and the NSCN (IM), saying “nobody seems to be serious with the process and appears to be waiting till the last day of another extension of the ceasefire.”
Talking to NEPS here at his official residence today, the Leader of the Opposition said, “We only know how to create hue and cry at the last moment when the ceasefire was on the verge of expiry.” But once it is extended for another term, the parties concerned appeared to be contented, he pointed out.
“Are we going to do this just for the sake of extending the ongoing ceasefire and doing nothing to go forward with the peace process?,” asked Imkong, regretting, “I am disappointed that it has become more or less ritual for the contending parties in taking the matter at the last moment by burning the midnight oil.”
Urging both the Government of India and the NSCN (IM) not to be contented with what has been going with the ceasefire extension spree, Imkong said they should rather seriously work out as to how “they can hammer out while the sufficient time is there.”
The Leader of the Opposition also expressed concern about wha he said was the deteriorating law and order situation in the State, stating there have been no sign of declining inter-factional feuds and further questioned the silence of the State Government on the issues.
He urged the State Government to take “more responsibility to tackle the situation and create proper atmosphere to bring about understanding among the different groups.”
The Leader of the Opposition also welcomed the ceasefire extension between the Government of India and the NSCN (K).
