Kohima, March 8 (MExN): On International Women’s Day, Mezivolu T Therieh (NJS), Chief Judicial Magistrate & Secretary, KDLSA, pledged to help women and girls achieve their ambitions, challenge conscious and unconscious bias against women and girl child, call for gender-based leadership, value everyone’s contribution equally and create inclusive and flexible culture.
She made the pledge during the IWD celebration organized by Kohima District Legal Services Authority (KDLSA) in collaboration with Mount Olive College, Kohima at the college.
Meanwhile, Guest Speaker Imtiakum, Public Prosecutor & Ex-Officio Member, KDLSA, highlighted the brief history of International Women’s Day (IWD) and emphasized on the theme, ‘Pledge for Parity’. He stressed on how one should work together in unity to create gender equality and challenged the women to stand up for their rights. He also said that men seem to be aware of the unconscious bias in the work places that holds women back; however, no immediate efforts are made to identify and eradicate it. Further, the speaker stated there are no such laws or rules where women are to work at home and men to rule. He went on to say that everyone – men and women – can pledge to take a concrete step to help achieve gender parity more quickly.
Nyanbeni Lotha, student of Mount Olive College, shared her personal thoughts on the topic “My expectations as a girl child’’. She emphasized on how women are being projected only to get married, bear a child and administer the family. She focused on the need to change the mindset. As per the present scenario, one of the urgent needs of the hour, she said, was to change the mindset and encourage the women to believe in one’s own dreams and to hope in accomplishing them.
