‘Working together for wildlife’

Mon, October 4 (MExN): The Department of Environment, Forests and Climate Change conducted a programme on October 4 at St John’s School in Mon district with the theme of ‘Working together for wildlife’ as part of the ongoing wildlife week celebration in the country from October 2 to 8.  

Suman Sivachar IFS, ACF Mon Division, the speaker at the programme engaged the students with trivia on animal facts. The young minds responded enthusiastically and were awarded with sweets for right answers. The students were informed about the success of Amur Falcon conservation that has been brought about in Nagaland in the last few years with the collaborative efforts of various departments, NGOs, people and communities working closely hand-in-hand.  

Awareness was given on the conservation and breeding efforts of the state bird - Blyths Tragopan. The participants of the programme were urged to discourage hunting, create awareness amongst family and friends about wildlife conservation and to plant trees in and around their homes. The students also took a pledge – ‘I stand by wildlife and all animals’ on the occasion of October 4 being the World Animal Day. Jose, Principal of St John’s school addressed the gathering and stressed on the importance of protecting the beautiful creations of nature together. A press release stated that W Wangshak, Range Officer, Mon Forest Department chaired the event. KBCM leaders - Nyamjo, Women Leader and Manai Konyak, Youth Director, St John’s school staff and the Mon Forest Department staff graced the programme.
