Wokha, December 11 (MExN): The Wokha Village Council (WVC) has maintained that the workmanship of the ongoing National Highway -2 (NH-61 old) road construction stretching from the NST area to Hammock Resort under its jurisdiction was not per the specification of the MoRTH guidelines and satisfactory as of now.
The WVC was entrusted to oversee the workmanship within the said stretch of road by the District Administration but we are dismayed that there is no coordination between the officials from the concerned contractors with the council from commencement of the construction of the work as entrusted till date, the council stated in a representation to the Wokha Deputy Commissioner on December 6.
The issue was deliberated upon during a WVC meeting on December 4 and it concluded that the works were not as per the criteria of the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) guidelines, added the WVC’s representation appended by its Chairman, K. Vandan E Rui and Secretary, Shanthungo Murry.
Accordingly, the meeting resolved to appeal and request the DC to initiate a joint verification as per the MoRTH’s specification guidelines and criteria on December 13 to avoid public pressure on the issue, it informed.
The joint verification team should comprise of the District Administration, NH-61 (New NH-2) officials under Wokha Division, concerned contractors and WVC, it added.
The WVC further cautioned that the council would not be held responsible for any issues or the future course of action pertaining to the road construction of NH-2 stretch under its jurisdiction if the District Administration fails to conduct the verification.
This representation should be treated urgently as an issue based matter, it added.
