Workshop at Hortiscape focus on ‘empowering women in sustainability’

Kisama, December 3 (MExN): Akashvani Kohima in collaboration with Department of Horticulture organised a workshop on fostering growth under the theme ‘Empowering Women in Sustainability’ at Hortiscape, Naga Heritage Village, Kisama on December 3. 

A DIPR report stated that Asst Director (P) HOP Akashvani Kohima, Abino Lasuh in her keynote address gave a brief on the BIND scheme, under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, which stands for ‘Broadcasting Infrastructure and Network Development (BIND).’ The scheme aims to significantly upgrade the physical infrastructure of public broadcasters like Doordarshan and All India Radio, particularly in border, LWE-affected, and strategic areas, allowing them to expand their reach and provide higher quality content to viewers with improved transmission facilities. 

Director Horticulture Department, Meyasashi speaking at the inaugural programme of the workshop at the outset thanked Akashvani Kohima for organizing the workshop and said that the participants would learn and benefit a lot from the workshop. He further delved into the importance of sustainability in the food production and farming sector and said that food as a basic right should be accessible and affordable for all while ensuring that the production process is environment friendly and organic. He also emphasized on the importance of eco- friendly farming practices which has little or no impact on the environment and discouraged the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides that harm and negatively impact the eco system. He in conclusion said that the topics for the workshop were apt in regard to the modern context of sustainable farming and that the participants would get new insights and bring changes to the farming process in the State.

The resource persons for the workshop were Director Konger AGRITECH Pvt. Ltd Dimapur, Dr Sosang Longkumer and Thunglamo Humtsoe, Urban Grower, Wokha who spoke on the topics Mushroom Cultivation as a Sustainable Livelihood for Women Folks in Nagaland and Soilless Solution, Endless Growth, Experience the Future of Farming with Hydroponic respectively.
