Workshop on CHAMAN Projects in Kohima

Kohima, June 28 (MExN): Department of Horticulture in collaboration with Nagaland Science & Technology Council (NASTEC) jointly organized one day workshop on CHAMAN Projects (Coordinated programme on Horticulture Assessment and Management using geo informatics) on June 25 at the Directorate of Horticulture, Kohima with the participation of officers from all the districts.  

It was stated in a DIPR report that resource person from Northeast Space Application Centre (NESAC), Chandan Goswami, Sci./Engr. ‘SF’ gave a brief history about CHAMAN projects and the projects taken up in North East region. B.K. Handique, Sci./Engr. ‘SD’(NESAC) gave a PowerPoint presentation and spoke on the components of Geo informatics, Horticultural Development Studies and others.  

Resource person from Nagaland Science & Technology Centre (NASTEC), Ditho Katiry, Scientist ‘C’ spoke on the concept of CHAMAN and its implementations in Nagaland. Thsope Medo, SRF, (NASTEC) spoke on the Technical guidelines and methodology followed in bringing out the potential mapping for pineapple in Dimapur district. The first phase of CHAMAN Project was taken up in Dimapur district for pineapple. For next phase of CHAMAN project, Wokha district was identified for Citrus plantation which will be followed by the remaining districts with focused crops.  

Earlier the workshop began with welcome address from Mishento Ghap, Deputy Director of Horticulture. Key note address was delivered by Dr. R. Elithung Lotha, Director & Mission Director of Horticulture, wherein he stressed on the importance of Geo informatics in the field of Horticulture and Agriculture.
