
Participants of the workshop on ‘Culture and traditional heritage of Nagaland’ organized on April 30 at the Conference Hall, Nagaland University, Lumami.
As part of the ongoing Cultural Exchange Programme under the banner of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat an initiative of MHRD, GoI, a workshop on ‘Culture and traditional heritage of Nagaland’ was organized on April 30 at the Conference Hall, Nagaland University, Lumami. A press note stated that Neizhanuo Golmei presented a paper on the ‘Land Ownership Systems of the Nagas’ highlighting the value of land and the different levels of ownership among the Nagas. Dr. Maibam Radharani presented on ‘Representation of Culture in Art and Artifacts’ highlighting the material culture and the symbolic meanings embedded in them. Dr. Neizo Puro made a presentation that included an audio-visual display of the high points of tourism in Nagaland. Dr. Tovishe Phucho presented on ‘Traditional Foods of the Nagas’ highlighting the method of preparation and mode of consumption of selected foods such as bamboo shoot, anishi, and axone. Peter Ki presented on the ‘Rite of Passage: A case Study of Maram Tribe’. Dr. Bijayasundari, faculty in-charge of the 14-member team from Dr. Harisingh Gour University Sagar gave an ‘Overview of Madhya Pradesh.’ The workshop was chaired by Dr. Pitheli K. Jimo, while Dipika Paul was the Rapporteur. The workshop came to a close with the concluding remarks from the chairperson, who applauded the presenters of the workshop for highlighting various aspects of Naga culture. She, however, lamented that the duration of the workshop was not long enough for a discussion on the theme.
