Workshop on Disaster Management Response

Dimapur, April 27 (MExN): A one day workshop on Disaster Management Response for college and school students under DRR/URR under GoI- UnDP was conducted at Government Higher Secondary School.
The inauguration key note was given by Joint Secretary (NSDMA Home), Abhishek Prakash, IAS, informed a press release received here.  After which the Johnny Raungmei, SPO gave an overview of Disaster Management and introduction to DRR and URR project of GoI-UNDP. He also gave a presentation on ‘Disaster Management and Climate Change’.  During the presentation, the SPO stressed that each family member must be aware of the do’s and don’t of earthquake. The students present were educated on the measures to take in the eventuality of an earthquake. The day long event also saw the NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) team from Guwahati give demonstrations on rescue techniques and basic safety measures on earthquake and fire.
The NDRF team also screened footages of earthquakes in schools so as to give the students a fair idea of what would happen in the eventuality of a disaster. It may be mentioned that the workshop was organized by the State Disaster Management Authority in collaboration with NDRF, Home guards Civil Defence and Fire service. The students were led to the school ground where all the concerned departments demonstrated various safety measures and rescue techniques. A total of six schools attended the workshop.
