Mon, May 25 (MExN): A two-day workshop was held in Mon from May 24-25 with focus on strengthening routine immunisation (RI) and District Vaccine Preventable Disease Surveillance (VDP) as well as elimination of MR. 

The first day of the workshop, held at District Hospital (DH) Conference Hall, was centred on immunisation after the pandemic with creative solutions learning from the COVID-19 strategies.

If we have the big push and sustain the ownership by all the allied departments and the involvement of the administration similar to the pandemic, the district would surely succeed in immunising many dropouts, stressed Dr Sheila Longkumer, SMO WHO and the resource person of the workshop. 

Technology such as ‘CoWIN,’ the backbone for the COVID-19 vaccination programme, has prompted the Universal Immunisation Programme (UIP) section to introduce an app shortly under the RI programme to manage and update the vaccine status of the district, she informed.

In her keynote address, Dr Vizokholu Theyo, CMO, Mon lauded the resource person for organising the much need workshop in the district. 

Noting that the district faces many challenge, she requested attendees to focus and learn to overcome the gaps and implement the RI programme better. 

Dr Vezokholu also took a session on RI performance and briefed on RI scenario of the district, challenges and possible interventions.

Others topics such as status of Zero Dozer & corrective measures; Issues and step-wise approach in developing RI microplan and Basic s of AEFI Surveillance strengthening surveillance at health facility level, were deliberated on the frist day. 

The theme for the second day was “District Vaccine Preventable Disease Surveillance  (VDP) & MR elimination.” 

During the same, Dr Longkumer shared on  status of VPD surveillance; Acute Flaccid Paralysis (AFP) surveillance- overview &audio visuals; Measles Rubella (MR) (Fever & Rash) surveillance; road map to MR elimination, Diphtheria Pertussis Tetanus (DPT) surveillance; sample collection, storage & transportation from reported cases and filling of Case Investigation Form (CIF), and so on. 

The workshop ended up with discussion & conclusion remark by Dr Wungyong DPO (RCH&UIP), informed a press release from Leeyan Chemshy, Media officer, NHM, Mon.

The workshop was attended by the Dy CMO, Medical Officers, Community Health Officers (CHOs), ANMs, Block Programme Officers (BPMs), District Programme Officer (DPM), Asha Co-ordinators and District Community Mobilizer (DCM), it added.
