
Zunheboto, April 29 (MExN): As part of the ongoing Cultural Exchange Programme under the ‘Ek Bharat Sareshtha Bharat,’ a workshop on ‘indigenous agricultural practices of Nagaland’ was conducted at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Nagaland University, Lumami.
Dr. Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK in his inaugural address welcomed all the participants and Dr. Vijaya Sundari, Assistant Professor, Department of Anthropology from Dr. Hari Singh Gaur University, Sagar, Madhya Pradesh.
Dr. Visakho Shunyu, SMS (Agronomy, Plant breeding & Genetics) spoke on indigenous agricultural practices of Nagaland with special reference to Jhum cultivation, while Dr. Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia spoke on indigenous breeds of livestock found in Nagaland. Dr. Chaurasia gave information of Mithun (Bos frontalis); Sumi-NE, a goat breed; and Tenyi-Vo, a pig breed registered as breed from Nagaland by NBAGR, Karnal.
Later, the participants visited the demonstration farm of KVK and interacted with the Farm Manager, Naropongla, who provided them insight on hill farming in Nagaland, informed a press release from Dr. Baljit Singh Sekhon, Nodal Officer, EBSB, NU.
