Workshop for medical officers underway

Kohima, May 6 (MExN): Principal Director of health & family welfare today stated that, with the launching of National Health Mission (NHM), there has been a considerable expansion in the health delivery in the State, however, improvement in quality of health services at every location has not been perceived generally, which leads to non-availing of services provided. Dr. Neiphi Kire was speaking during the inaugural function of the two-day workshop on “Quality Assurance in Public Health Facilities” at the conference hall of Directorate of Health & Family Welfare. In order to enhance the satisfaction level among users of government health facilities and reposing trust in the Public Health System, Kire said, the Quality Assurance Programme has been initiated in the State encompassing all services envisaged under the RMNCH+A, disease control programmes and other hospital services by restructuring and expanding the scope of the existing Quality Assurance Scheme for Sterilisation Service under Family Planning Programme.

A press release informed that, in his keynote address, Dr. Parminder Gautam, Senior Consultant, Quality Improvement, National Health Systems Resource Centre (NHSRC), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, New Delhi, GoI, said that, with the launching of NRHM there is a significant increase in the quantity of all the components, but when it comes to quality, it has not translated to the desired goals. “But now with the GoI’s multi-prong approach to quality assurance policy the question here is how can we implement or provide the limited resources in order to achieve the desired outcome,” he added.

The welcome address was delivered by Dr.Neikietuo Chiesotsu, M.D, NHM and vote of thanks by Dr.Limaakum, SPO, NHM. The two-day workshop is being attended by the Medical Superintendent, District Programme Officer RCH & UIP, District Programme Manager and one Senior Medical Officer of all the districts in the State. The resource persons are Dr. Parminder Gautam, Senior Consultant, Quality Improvement, NHSRC, MoH&FW; Asha Kumari, Consultant HA&QI, NERRC, Guwahati; Dr. Deepika Sharma, Consultant Quality Improvement, NHSRC; Dr.Nikhil Prakash Gupta, Consultant (QI), NHSRC; and Sanyukta Kashyap, Programme Associate, NERRC. The workshop is being jointly organised by National Health Mission, Nagaland and National Health Systems Resource Centre (NHSRC), MoH&FW, GoI.
