Kohima, November 13 (MExN): A National workshop on ‘Newer Frontiers in Bioinformatics and Research Methodology’ started today at Nagaland University, Lumami. It will conclude on November 19. The workshop is being organized by Bioinformatics Infrastructure Facility (BIF) Centre, Nagaland University, Lumami, and sponsored by the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, GoI, New Delhi.
The inaugural function was held on November 13 at the BIF Centre chaired by Dr Tiasunep, Assistant Professor, Department of Anthropology and welcome address delivered by Dr Bendang Ao, Associate Professor, Department of Zoology, & Coordinator, BIF Centre, NU.
Professor Pardeshi Lal, Vice-Chancellor, Nagaland University delivered a speech at the Inaugural function.
The participants are MSc/ MTech, and PhD students as well as faculty members from Life Sciences, Chemical sciences, Physical sciences and related fields. The workshop will deal with a host of themes including Research Methodology, Research communications, Funding agencies and project submission, Microbiome studies, Protein data bank, Computational drug discovery, Molecular modeling, Web servers and databases handling in genomics, Factors and journal assessments, etc.
It may be mentioned that the Bioinformatics Infrastructure Facility (BIF) Centre, Nagaland University was established in 2007 with a grant from the Department of Biotechnology, GoI. The motto of the facility is “Biology Teaching through Bioinformatics” (BTBI). The BIF facility has 10 terminals with internet connection, a press release from NU informed.
