Lukhamliu Agnes, Vice President of ANPSA Pfutsero Division led the introductory session, while Thujongoyi Dazo, President of ANPSA Pfutsero Division, welcomed the participants and the resource person. Students of Tewelhi Medo Tyrannus Higher Secondary School presented the song “My Beautiful Pfutsero.”

A total of 130 teachers from 14 schools under the Pfutsero Division attended the workshop.

Delivering the keynote address, Chekroveyi Cho-o, Executive Secretary of Chakhesang Baptist Church Council, appreciated the ANPSA Pfutsero Division for organising the programme for school leaders and teachers to create awareness on the importance of inclusion in schools.

He stated that human beings are created in the image of God and all human beings have equal dignity. Quoting from Psalms 139:14, he explained that every human is intentionally and intricately designed by God with great reverence and purposeful care and that people with disabilities are not cursed. He also opined that in a culture that celebrates perfection, schools are the perfect platform where inclusion can become the norm, where safe spaces are created and where the marginalised are nurtured and protected.

The workshop began with a discussion on diversity, equality and inclusion, highlighting that classrooms consist of learners with diverse backgrounds, abilities, cultures and learning needs. Participants reflected on the realities of diversity in every classroom and the importance of equitable access to ensure fair opportunities for all children while creating environments where every learner feels valued and supported.

The session also explored special education needs (SEN), focusing on different learning challenges and the importance of early identification and intervention, appropriate support systems and collaboration with parents and specialists.

Another segment discussed the models of disability, particularly the medical and social models, highlighting how society’s attitudes and environments often create barriers to learning for learners with disabilities. The discussion stressed that inclusive education is not merely about placing students with disabilities in regular classrooms but about transforming teaching methods, curriculum and school culture so that all learners can participate meaningfully.

The workshop also explained the roles of teachers and school leaders in building inclusive schools. Teachers were encouraged to adopt flexible teaching strategies, differentiated instruction and empathetic classroom management, while school leaders were urged to foster supportive policies, provide resources and promote a culture of respect and collaboration.

The concept of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) was also introduced. The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks by Thepuhu Thira, President of ANPSA Phek Unit, while David Kezo closed the programme with a prayer.
