Noklak, June 22 (MExN): As a part of campaign on preventing and combating child trafficking in 100 bordering and adjoining districts of India, a sensitisation workshop on ‘preventing and combating child trafficking’ was held at DC’s conference Hall, Noklak on June 21, stated a DIPR report.
The programme was organized by District Administration, Noklak in collaboration with National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) and State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR), a DIPR report stated.
DC Noklak, Arikumba in his keynote address, stated that, human trafficking is the violation of human rights where people of all genders, ages and background can become victims of human trafficking. DC explained in detail the various forms of exploitation like sexual, labour, domestic servitude and child exploitation. He also explained the core elements of human trafficking such as recruitment, transportation, transfer, harbouring or receipt of persons
Noklak district is located in the international boundary between India and Myanmar which is very vulnerable of human trafficking, and to this, a sensitization workshop on 'Preventing and Combating Child Trafficking’ is very much necessary. DC Noklak requested all the stakeholders who have attended the workshop to learn well and to share awareness on human trafficking to our family, villagers and community.
Speaking on the occasion as Resource Person, Advocate, Guwahati High Court, Kohima Bench Tongpang L Jamir, stated that, Human Trafficking is modern day slavery. He elaborated on some of the reasons of Human Trafficking like Poverty, Lack of awareness and Lack of employment.
He explained in detail the risk groups of Human trafficking, features of trafficking, steps to take when we see trafficked victims or encounter human trafficking and other preventives measures. He also highlighted the legal provision under the different laws and Acts.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by DCPO, Noklak, Yangtriba Sangtam while vote of thanks was delivered by EAC, Noklak Menlom. The programme was attended by District Administration, Police, Teachers, Civil Societies, NGOs and Churches organization.
