It also aims to tracking missing children of the country.

The NIC team presented an online demonstration on “Track Child”. The issue of missing and untraced children has become a matter of deep concern over the years. But, the chances of tracing these children have increased significantly because of  introduction of computerized databases and computerized search related to lost and found children, created and maintained by various states/UTs through the Missing Person Bureau under the state police and the child care institutions maintained by the State women and children departments under the Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS), and under the Juvenile Justice Act respectively which are linked and converged.

Currently 18 States and UTs, namely Gujarat, Chandigarh, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, W Bengal, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Meghalaya, Maharashtra, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Tamilnadu, Orissa, Kerala, Tripura and Sikkim have taken the initiative, although there is a need to come on to a common national platform.

Further, a Hands-on training for officers – ICPS/Police was conducted by the NIC Team. The information based application developed by the NIC under the aegis of the Ministry of Women and Child called “Track Child” is available at www.trackchild.gov.in and has been piloted in West Bengal by the CID since 2008.
