Workshops on biotechnology and IPR held at SETAM

Kohima: A one day workshop on Biotechnology and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) was organized at School of Engineering Technology and Management (SETAM), Dimapur, on March 13 by Biotechnology Hub and Patent Information Cell (PIC) under Nagaland Science & Technology Council (NASTEC), Kohima Nagaland.

The programme began with a welcome address from H. Rathore, Asst Professor, Department of Biotechnology, SETAM, while a keynote address was delivered by Dr Nesatalu Hiese, Scientist D and Coordinator.

In her address, Dr Hiese stressed on the need for the academia and researchers to collaborate and work together so that a progressive development can be brought in the field of Science & Technology, particularly for Nagaland state.

In the technical session, Kekuneil Henry Ltu, Scientist ‘B’ spoke on the prospects of Biotechnology in Nagaland and Gihukali Chishi, In-charge of PIC, on IPR. Chishi emphasized on the importance of IPR in the present scenario and how our rights are being infringed by others and thus deliberated on awareness to safeguard & protect our rights.

Dr. Merino Visa, Research Scientist, encouraged the students to take up germplasm documentation or harness our latent resources in the best way possible with a scientific temper.

She also challenged students to give a follow up of the programme and urged them not to hesitate to contact the NASTEC group when in need. Dr Visa further expressed gratitude to Prof. D.P. Chaturvedi, Dean, SETAM, for hosting the workshop.
