The World AIDS Day 2023 was observed by District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit (DAPCU) Mon in collaboration with NHM, DLSA, NTEP, DTCC, RRC, MUN & Shansham Org. with support from NSACS on December 1 at District Hospital, Mon.

MON, DECEMBER 6 (MExN): Along with the rest of the World, the World AIDS Day 2023 was observed by District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit (DAPCU) Mon in collaboration with NHM, DLSA, NTEP, DTCC, RRC, MUN & Shansham Org. with support from NSACS. The World AIDS Day was observed under the theme, “Led Communities Lead.”
Guest speaker Nyamok Konyak, EAC, Mon in her speech mentioned that education is the only way to fight against HIV and therefore more awareness should be spread at all levels in order to end the transmission of HIV and to combat stigma and dispel myths. She also said that one should not be discriminated or isolated because of HIV status but should show love and care to those who are living with it.

Dr Yingngam Wangnaolim, MO, District Hospital Mon who spoke on the theme, mentioned that World AIDS Day is observed globally every year on December 1 since 1988, which serves as an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, and to commemorate those who have died from an AIDS-related illness. She said this year’s theme focuses on the importance of community involvement towards AIDS response at different levels.
Announcement of winners and presentation of certificate for online poster making competition on account of World AIDS Day was undertaken by Prof Rongsennungla, Nodal Officer, RRC, Wangkhao Government College, Mon.
Tingthok K, President, Konyak Union delivered a short speech followed by a Pledge by Wanjen C Konyak, RRC member, WGC, Mon.
The candlelight vigil was held accompanied by a song ‘Go light your world’ by Moijem Konyak. Dr Imnapokim, CMO, Mon delivered a welcome address and a special song was presented by Nursing Staff, District Hospital Mon.
The World AIDS Day programme which was led by Nyeamying K, District Consultant, DTCC, began with prayer by Rev Ashok Walim, District Chaplain, Mon. Later, the vote of thanks was delivered by Longyim Tzudir, DPO, DAPCU Mon where he acknowledged all the programme participants, government officials, civil societies, churches, students, medical fraternity, defence personnel, NGOs and well wishers for participating in the programme.
