World Aids Day observed at Wokha

Wokha, December 2 (MExN): Wokha joined in the World Aids Day observance on December 1 at the DC Conference Hall, Wokha with DAPCU and WNP+ VIHAAN jointly organizing the event.  

ADC Wokha Thavaseelan, IAS, who was the Chief Guest on the occasion, noted that no pandemic such as HIV/AIDS – which has swept away so many lives – been recorded in the history of mankind. He called for people to work hand in hand warning that the pandemic will otherwise wipe the future generations.  

Theme speaker Wonchibeni, First Class Magistrate & Secretary Legal Service Wokha, spoke on the theme “Hands up for HIV prevention” where she gave a brief overview on basics of HIV/AIDS and gave a scenario of the world’s infected and affected. She elaborated on the demands of the theme- more condoms, right to health, VMMC, PrEP, No violence, Zero discrimination, Harm reduction and HIV treatment.  

Giving a presentation on the scenario of HIV/AIDS and challenges of PLHIV of Wokha district, Lichumo Odyuo, DPO DAPCU, stated that this year recorded the highest HIV detection compared to other years. Out of 4738 tested, 33 were found HIV positive (April –October 2016), Odyuo revealed.  

The programme concluded with a screening of the documentary “Eye of the Strom”.
