
Zunehboto, April 7 (MExN): District Health Society, Zunheboto observed belated World Cancer Day under the theme ‘We Can. I Can’ at District Hospital Zunheboto on April 6. Dr. Akaho, Senior Specialist, District Hospital Zunheboto, who was the resource person, shared some facts on early warnings and awareness for early detection of cancer. He advised the participants to restrict themselves from taking excess alcohol, tobacco products, and also limit intake of red and smoked meat, informed a press release from Shekho Sophie, District Media Officer, CMO office, Zunheboto.
The doctor also warned that lack of exercise can lead to obesity, high blood pressure, chronic respiratory & cardiovascular diseases and cancers. Stressing that it is the responsibility of every citizen to create awareness, Dr. Akaho encouraged the participants to have healthy diet, maintain physical activity.
Free IEC materials were distributed during the observance and also in schools. The programme was attended by Dr. Hokishe Sema, CMO, Dr. Alemwapang, DPO (RCH & UIP), DPMU staffs, stakeholders, students and medical fraternity. Vitoli, DPM, chaired the programme, while Dr. Hoito Sema, Deputy CMO gave they keynote address. During the observation, 117 sugar tests and 87 BP tests were done during which 5 diabetes cases were detected, the release added.
