Dimapur, July 14 (MExN): Faith Hospital has instated a complete world-class Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART), or in layman’s term “Test Tube-Baby” technology, with well-equipped hi-tech instruments at the hospital, Old Sewak Road, Dimapur. This first In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) Centre in the state of Nagaland would be inaugurated on July 15 by Health & Family Welfare Minister DR TM Lotha. Towards this, Faith Hospital has introduced to the people ART facilities for IVF with complete technology assisted facilities for address and diagnosis of both male and female-related bio-reproductive problems. Infertile couples desirous of a child would be treated with IVF, ICSI, IUI with the support of a Semen Bank, Ovum Bank and an Embryo Bank. It was informed that special facilities would be provided to choose for surrogate mothers as well. ART is located on the 6th Floor with facilities for filling, Collection and Injection, Counseling, Observation and Recovery, Andrology and Hormonal Laboratory, IUI, Embryology Laboratory as well as an IVF/ICSI/Embryo Transfer Theatre (ETT). The ART unit has a visiting faculty consisting of Dr Ranjit Joshi, MRCOG, Dr Pramod Bajaj, MD, Dr Vijay Kumar and Dr Chopade, MD, on regular basis. As an up-gradation process of Faith Hospital, the facility has been created to treat infertile couples with the help of ART and Intrauterine Insemination. At a press conference today at the hospital today announcing the new entrant in the State’s medical services, Dr Pramod Bajaj, MD, highlighted the various aspects of ART. “Without a child no family is complete. Not having a child includes social trauma, mental trauma and may relate to many other problems and can even be called as biological-handicap” Dr Bajaj said. “However, with Assisted Reproductive Technology, it is possible to achieve pregnancy for infertile couples. ART in Faith Hospital is one of the best and can be compared to the top five (such facilities) in the country” Dr Bajaj said. He also highlighted the various aspects of ART and the procedures involved and said that the costs and expenses towards availing the treatment is at par with those in mainland Indian cities like Mumbai or Kolkata. “The only difference being there won’t be additional, unseen expenses of travel, distance and accommodation” he added. Although a specific amount of expense figures could not be given since it depended on various factors like procedures involved, age, drug-treatment etc, it was informed that it could amount from anywhere between Rs 65,000 to 3 Lakhs. Dr Sukhato Wotsa, Medical Superintendent of Faith Hospital informed that expenses would vary depending on the age and potency of a patient. Dr Wotsa said that chances of a successful fertilization is high if a patient if below the age of 30 years while the chances of a patient above 30 years of age is lesser. Nevertheless, the treatment is highly feasible for infertile couples seeking a child.
