Dimapur, January 2 (MExN): The first ever published 24 Volume World Encyclopaedia of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology running into more than 10,000 pages was released by the renowned environmental scientist and institution builder Chancellor Dr. Priya Ranjan Trivedi, President and Plenipotentiary, Confederation of Indian Universities. He said nanotechnology has the potential to benefit all aspects of forestry and forest products in the North-Indian States in general and in the State of Nagaland in particular, from plants, forest management, harvesting, forest operations, wood-base products, application of wood-based products to the understanding of consumer behavior, informed a press release received here. Discussing about the wider use of nanotechnology in the mountain States especially in forest dominating areas of Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram, Dr. Trivedi observed that the industry has goals to create new bio-based composites and nanomaterials, and to achieve improvement in the performance-to-weight ratio of paper and packaging products through nanotechnology and nanotechnology-enabled new paper features. Stressing the need for studies, teaching, training and applied researches in the specialized areas of nanoscience and nanotechnology, Dr. Trivedi said there will be a revolution in the area of agriculture, farm management, pomology, food processing very soon with the introduction of nanotech based technologies. Dr. Trivedi said the techniques being developed in the areas of nanoscience will revolutionize the new and emerging area of rural and urban entrepreneurship. The problems relating to unemployment, hostility, pollution and population explosion will be reduced by creating alternative and sustainable jobs in India with the help of nanotechnology, he opined.
