Dimapur, June 4 (MExN): World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5 every year all over the world to draw attention to the importance of the environment for our very own survival. Throughout the years it has been celebrated worldwide under different themes. The theme for the current year is ‘Forests: Nature at your service’.
A press note received here stated that keeping this theme in view, the Nagaland Pollution Control Board brought out the sub-theme “Saving Forests through Waste Paper Recycling” to demonstrate how we can reduce deforestation and save trees by reusing waste paper. The celebration of World Environment Day 2011 was pre-poned to June 4 as June 5 falls on a Sunday this year.
Eco-Club members from Mount Mary Higher Secondary School, Chumukedima and Trinity School, Thahekhu participated in the workshop where the students took active part in learning the method of paper recycling both by using machines as well as manually without the use of machines. The pulp for making the recycled paper was prepared using waste paper and at the end of the process, the students were taught to make cards, envelopes and paper bags out of the recycled paper. Paryavaran Mitra Environmental Oath and booklets were also distributed to the students to encourage them to become friends of the environment.
