World Food Safety Day observed in Mokokchung, Chümoukedima

Mokokchung, June 7 (MExN): The World Food Safety Day 2024 was commemorated the theme ‘Food Safety- Prepare for the Unexpected’ at the conference hall of the Chief Medical Officer's office, Mokokchung. It was organised by the Food Safety Cell, CMO Office, Mokokchung on June 7.

A welcome address was given by C Merenlemba Designated Officer (Food Safety).

The Mokokchung ADC Chumlamo Humtsoe in his speech encouraged the food operators the importance of food safety and the need to prevent, detect and manage food hazards in order to ensure food security for all. He also mentioned the potential risk associated with contaminated food and the need for effective food safety measures to prevent illness. He congratulated the Food Safety Zone, CMO Office for following the food safety norms and checking of food in the market.

Dr Kibangkumba, CMO Mokokchung gave a brief awareness on the food safety habits and a well balanced diet for a healthy and prolonged life. He also advised the people to follow the food safety rules set by the office.

Sukumlo Yanthan, Food Safety Officer concluded the programme with a vote of thanks. The training on FoSTaC food operators was held after the programme.


Chümoukedima: The Food Safety Wing, Dimapur Zone under the establishment of the Chief Medical Officer’s Office Dimapur, celebrated the World Food Safety Day 2024 under the theme ‘Food Safety: Prepare for the unexpected’ at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Chümoukedima town on June 7. 

The welcome address was given by Dr Talisangla, Vice Principal, GHSS. Dr Limatula Aier, the Chief Medical Officer, Dimapur gave the keynote address where she stressed on the importance of looking for FSSAI License/Registration number while buying package food products and also to maintain a healthy diet with the right intake and avoid carbonated drinks. 

Introduction and concept of Food Safety was highlighted by Samuel Zehol, Designated Officer (DO), Food Safety, Dimapur Zone. 

In his speech, the DO also advised the students to anticipate against any unexpected events be it in a form of natural disaster or power outrage. He challenged the students to take the message of the theme as an ambassador and also to fight against the outbreak of food borne diseases. 

The programme was attended by the class 10 students of the School. The programme was followed by demonstration of detecting food adulterants in common food items like spices, pulses, honey etc by the Food Safety on Wheels Team, Dimapur.
