World Heart Day: Free screening conducted for children in Dimapur

Coinciding with the World Heart Day, Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) of National Health Mission in collaboration with Shija Hospitals and Research Institute, Imphal, conducted a free screening of heart diseases for children within the age group of 0-18 years at District Hospital Dimapur on Saturday.  

According to medical officer RBSK, Dimapur, Dr. Kadila, of the 50 children who underwent screening, 23 were detected with heart defects and 16 of them have been referred to take further treatment at Shija Hospital.  

The medical officer said with regard to further treatment and surgery, maximum financial expenditure would be borne through the RBSK programme and the patient would be required to cough up some minimum amount, though the amount would vary from case to case.  

Programme manager of RBSK Nagaland, Zale Khatso, said the screening focused on 30 health conditions including congenital defects, developmental delays, birth defects etc. She informed the screening is the first in Dimapur this year and added similar screenings were conducted in Mokokchung and Kohima earlier this year in July.
