World Red Cross Day

Kohima, May 9 (DIPR): With the rest of the world, the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) of Nagaland observed World Red Cross Day, the 183rd Birthday of Jean Henry Dunant on May 8 at Conference Hall IRCS Kohima with Minister for Agriculture Nagaland, Dr. Chumben Murry and Chief Information Commissioner Nagaland, Lalhuma as the Chief Guest and Theme Speaker respectively, under the theme ‘Find the Volunteer inside You’.
‘Find the diamond volunteer in you’
The Chief Guest, Dr. Chumben Murry has said that “if people said change the things,” he would say find the diamond volunteer in you. “We can do diamond volunteer, if we are proactive” he said and added that we should talk about the ground reality; we need to reassess the risk we have in our capacity in term of prevention, medication with the coordination of the agencies. He also stressed on the need to think some of the disadvantages and convert into advantages to deal with the situation of disaster magnitude. Dr. Chumben further added that disaster that has come from nature of our soil cannot be immediately control. Emphasising on safety measures, Dr. Chumben said that there is a need to develop our township with proper plans and safety measures. Agriculture Minister also said that to revamp the government agencies dealing with disaster management, the State Level Disaster Management Authority meeting were held, where he expressed his hopefulness that some certain changes will take place in the management. He also encouraged the Red Cross Society Nagaland to be more aware and bring some certain amount of good changes in the society.
The Theme Speaker of the World Red Cross Day, Lalhuma highlighted the silent features where the Indian Red Cross Society has some extraordinary humanitarian treatment and earns the worldwide recognition, which has been achieved by the volunteers. He said Red Cross is and International Humanitarian Movement, which was founded by Henry Dunant with the primary objective of setting the humanitarian force in this selfish world. Lalhuma said that the International Red Cross Society has 97 million volunteers’ members covering almost every nation of the world of 189 countries. He said the objective of the International Red Cross Society is to protect human life and health, the fundamental principles adopted by the International Red Cross Society is summaries as humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independent volunteer service, unity and universality which is the noble fundamental principle. He also said that International Red Cross Society has earned the noble prize three times in 1917, 1944 and 1963 for exceptional humanitarian works and further encouraged the student community that every one can be a good use for the Indian Red Cross volunteer.
Earlier welcome speech was delivered by Dr. S. Imkongtoshi Ao who warmly welcomed all the members and also informed that all 11 districts and 2 sub-divisional branches of Indian Red Cross Society Nagaland also celebrating the World Red Cross day along with the rest of the world. He said the Indian Red Cross Society Nagaland state Branch was established in 26th February 1982 through the initiative of Vizol and Dr. Miss K. K Anagami as President and Secretary and celebrated its first World Red Cross Day in 1985 and now its has its braches in 11 districts and 2 sub-division Noklak and Tseminyu.
A Red Cross Society volunteer Neihenuo shared her experience as a volunteer. The function was presided by Vice Chairman H. Hesso and vote of thanks was proposed by Akhale V. Khamo.
