World TB Day observed at Agape School

The District Health Society, Kiphire observed World Tuberculosis Day at Agape School, Kiphire. Addressing the students on tuberculosis (TB) awareness, Dr Thripongchum, senior specialist, District Hospital Kiphire informed that TB is a deadly disease and to eradicate this disease everyone needs to come together and added that it prevails more in the developing countries.  

He said that cleanliness, proper hygiene and using of handkerchief while coughing are some of the very important steps to fight against the diseases.  

He also reminded that if a person is coughing for more than ten days one needs to check the sputum in the hospital so that if it is detected one has to undergo treatment and the medication is also free of cost by the Government of India which is also known as TODS.  

Dr Thripongchum also said that there are cases when a person is suffering from TB, the utensils are kept separately for him or her, which he said, “is discrimination” and added “TB is not spreads through utensils or touching of utensils infected person but is spread through coughing in the open air by the infected person without using handkerchief.” Dr Khelito Zhimomi, District Tuberculosis Officer expressed gratitude to the school authorities for giving the space to hold the programme and appealed to the students to carry the message of the day.  

Dr Tinurenla, Deputy CMO Kiphire gave away the prizes to Ika, Adiba and Staylon the winners of the essay competition on TB on the day. Altogether 12 participants took part in the essay competition. The programme was followed with refreshment.
