DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 17 (MExN): The three day Wozhuro range sports meet kicked off on December 17 at Wozhuro Mini stadium organized by the Wozhuro Range Council Union (WRCU) with Zubemo Tsanglao, Assistant Director Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Nagaland as the special guest.
Speaking at the inaugural programme, Zubemo said events like range sports meet are very important between the different villages as it gives an opportunity to bring unity and strengthen the friendship between the villagers. He said that participating is such event is more important than winning and encouraged the players to further strengthen their friendship and feeling of oneness among each other while upholding the event with the sportsman spirit.
Earlier, Thechamo Tsanglao, President Wozhuro Range Public Organization (WRPO) said “this sports meet has been played since our grandfathers’ time and through the meet they had maintained the friendship between the range villagers.” Tsanglao informed the WRPO in the coming years will try to take the responsibility to organize this particular sports meet and keep the bonding among the villagers.

The programme was chaired by Yanbemo Tungoe, Chairman WRCU, while Libenthung, Pastor SBC said the invocation prayer. Aloe Khuvung, VC, WRCU delivered the welcome and Thungjanshio, Pastor, Phiro Baptist Church invoked God’sblessing for the participating teams. Khodao Ranthang pronounced the vote of thanks.
Altogether six villagers under Wozhuro Range are participating in the on-going meet where seven teams will be playing league matches in the football category and 9 teams in the volleyball knockout tournament.
The winner of the football category will walk away with a cash prize of Rs 12,000 along with running trophy while Rs 8,000 and Rs 4,000 will be given to the second and the third positions respectively. In the volleyball category, winners will be awarded Rs 6,000 and Rs 5,000 for the runner up.
