Chümoukedima, June 10 (MExN): Norman Putsure College (NPC), Chümoukedima organised a writing workshop with Professor Tim Tomlinson on June 10. Professor Tomlinson was accompanied by his wife Deedle.
The session started with welcome address by NPC Principal Dr K Timothy and highlighted briefly about Tomlison’s vast achievement, who is a Professor in the Writing Department at New York University, a co-founder of New York Writers Workshop and co-author of its popular text, The Portable MFA in Creative Writing.
During the session, Professor Tomlinson shared few tactics to learn the art of writing. He instructed that a clear exposition, development and drama are the significant features to create a story but also added that he usually avoids it following the meander, spiral and explode method.
“You need to get the line on the page”, is what Professor Tomlinson advised the participants irrespective of whether the knowledge prevails about the beginning, middle and the end. Few exercises were also carried out to enhance the practical knowledge of the students and Professor Tomlinson made it clear that “a writing exercise is never wrong, the only wrong thing to do is not doing it at all”.
