
Kohima, March 23 (MExN): Supporting the call for Clean Election Campaign by NBCC, the Western Sümi Baptist Akukuhou Küqhakulu (WSBAK) has launched the Clean Election Campaign on February 28, 2017. A Committee for Clean Election has been set up and the orientation of members was given by Hekani Jakhalu, Chair, Governing Council Youthnet, Kohima.
In her message, Hekani highlighted election malpractices and election related expenses where large amount of money has been spent in buying votes which ultimately becomes the root cause of all forms of corruption in Nagaland. She also highlighted the importance of having plans and strategies for clean election campaign.
Subsequently, WSBAK organized the first Clean Election Campaign in 2017 for the churches under Aghunaqha area on March 4 at Zutoi Baptist Church. More than 100 delegates including the G.Bs, Village Chairmen and members, Pastor’s and church leaders attended the campaign representing 30 churches. A booklet on clean election campaign in Sümi language entitled “Amikucho Kikishe Lojikugha” was distributed to educate the people on the prevailing election system and urged people to rise to the occasion to stand and act together for free and fair elections.
About 60 persons took the responsibility in ensuring clean election by signing the pledge card. Rev. Aheto Sema, Kakheli, Inato Shikhu were the resource speakers.
WSBAK CEC Committee, Convener, Rev. Aheto Sema informed in a press release that more workshops and campaigns will be organized in the coming days for churches under WSBAK covering 10 areas.
