WSH, frontal orgs condemn ‘death threat’ over tax dispute

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 2 (MExN): The Western Sümi Hoho (WSH) and its frontal organizations have expressed concern and alarm on the death threat issued by NSCN/GPRN (Khango) to KKB Rülho over a tax-related dispute.

Condemning it as unacceptable while putting the lives of the people at risk, Media Cell, WSH, in a press statement, said it cannot allow disagreements over taxation to escalate into violence and intimidation.

It also expressed concern over the strong reaction from NSCN/GPRN (Khango) following the Angami Youth Organisation’s (AYO) declaration of non-cooperation and directing all contractors working under the purview of AYO to temporarily suspend operations, demobilize their personnel, and remove their equipment and machinery from other districts.

Terming such response as an unnecessary escalation that will only lead to more harm and suffering for our people, the WSH said this move has the potential to disrupt the fragile peace and undermine the progress we have made towards development and prosperity.

In this connection, the WSH has urged the NSCN/GPRN (Khango) to immediately withdraw the death threat and seek a peaceful resolution to the tax dispute through dialogue and negotiation. It also called on the AYO to engage in constructive dialogue to find a mutually beneficial solution.

“Let us work together to find peaceful solutions to our differences and avoid actions that may jeopardize the hard-earned peace in our state. The WSH and its frontal organizations appeal to all parties to exercise restraint and prioritize the well-being of the Naga people,” the press statement read.

Direct blow to Pochury community: MSK
The Müluo Shefüri Kügharü (MSK) said the directive of the NSCN/GPRN (Khango) for immediate cessation and demobilization of manpower and machinery across Nagaland on developmental works under the purview of AYO, including that of KKB has come as a direct blow to the people of Pochury community and commuters of Kiphire district among others.

While condemning the reported death threat on Rülho, Proprietor of KKB Rülho Pvt. Ltd, the MSK in a press statement said Rülho is undertaking road construction project which is the lifeline of Meluri sub-division and Kiphire district, among others. Halting such a mega project of a lifetime will only result in adverse effect to its people, it stated.

It also maintained that every Naga has been doing its role of genuine contribution since its inception for Nation building. However, all these noble acts have been tarnished over the years due to unabated taxation spree on its people.

SYO discredits ‘death penalty’
The Sumi Youth Organization (SYO) has expressed profound concern over the conflict occurring between the NSCN-K (Khango) group and the proprietor of KKB K Rulho Contractor. The NSCN-K (Khango) group has reportedly issued a death penalty against K Rulho, a contractor, leading to the Angami Youth Organization’s intervention in mediation efforts to address and resolve the situation.

The Sumi Youth Organization, alongside the rest of the youth organizations across the state, discredits the death penalty without exception and regardless of circumstances, stated a press release issued by Convener Public Grievances Cell, SYO Vice-President, Hukaito Zhimomi and General Secretary Bokalu V Jimo.

“SYO belief that the “death penalty is no answer to the solution” and advocates for peaceful and constructive means of conflict resolution, rooted in dialogue, understanding, and reconciliations,” it stated.

The SYO has therefore appealed to both the NSCN-K (Khango) and AYO to partake in constructive dialogues. “It is imperative to pursue a peaceful resolution through negotiation and mutual understanding rather than resorting to threats and violence.”
