DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 23 (MExN): The Western Sümi Hoho (WSH) has served a 15 day ultimatum to M/S Vipe Enterprises for non completion of work and compromising quality of work on the 21.89 km road from 4th Mile to Atu Ghoki, Hozukhe, Niuland.
In a memorandum addressed to the Chief Engineer, Road & Bridges, Kohima, the WSH pointed out that the firm M/S Vipe Enterprises completely failed to finish the work within the allotted time frame even despite the Extension of Time (EoT) order given with regard to the construction of the Niuland road sanctioned under Phase II SASCE 2021-22 by the PWD (R&B).
It recalled that the Ato Area GBs union took up the issue that led to the calling of a road bandh as a form of protest a couple of months ago, which was not acknowledged by the firm. The WSH intervened and took up the issue, calling for a joint coordination meeting on July 13, 2023 in Hozukhe village with representatives from the Ato Area GBs Union led by its president, the Niuland district administration led by EAC and EE(R&B) Dimapur Division.
The concerned contractor of Vipe Enterprise failed to turn up and instead instructed road supervisor and site engineer to represent him, the memorandum stated.
A resolution was adopted during the joint meeting which called for completion of the work by August 31, 2023 by granting 2nd EoT to the firm. However, the contractor began working only for a short period of time before ceasing all work till date, it stated.
Following this, a fact-finding team led by WSH general secretary conducted an inspection on September 5, 2023 wherein it discovered that the ongoing road construction has been left unfinished. It also discovered that not only is the work unfinished but the completed components of the works were in an appalling condition, demonstrating bad workmanship.
Highlighting this, the WSH has urged the Chief Engineer (R&B) to look into the matter at the earliest in order to avoid any “unfavourable nasty situations.” It demanded that work must be carious out right away without sacrificing quality in accordance with the DPR’s specification.
The WSH cautioned that in the event of non compliance, it would be compelled to take legal action against the concerned company or even against the R&B office, Dimapur Division if deemed necessary. It, meanwhile, requested the concerned office to refrain from releasing the remaining balance of the bill to the firm without first receiving a ‘NOC’ from the WSH.
