Dimapur, January 30 (MExN): The Western Sumi Students’ Union (WSSU) is holding its 37th Annual Conference under the theme “Progressive Generation” at Niuland town from January 29 to 30.
Parliamentary Secretary for Irrigation and Flood Control, Jacob Zhimomi, graced the inaugural function as chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, Jacob challenged the students to pursue better education so as to become assets to society. Quipping that “time waits for none,” he urged students to make the best use of their time and youthful life and equip themselves so as to contribute towards the progress of society. Further stating that wisdom is God’s gift, he contended that to use wisdom one has to be well educated.
Reminding the gathering about the vital role that parents play in the education and moulding of a child, the chief guest pointed out that parent-children relationship was very important and that with proper guidance and monitoring, parents make a great impact on the life of students.
Reiterating that government jobs have reached saturation point, he said a simple pass was not going to help them to find government jobs. At such times, he mentioned the need for one to have proficiency in a particular field. In this regard, he pointed out that the government has created a department to help train young people in skill development. He further expressed that humbling oneself and inculcating dignity of labour are keys to being successful in life.
He urged the students never to possess negative and selfish attitudes that destroy the fabric of peaceful and progressive society, but rather urged them to be “God fearing” and to own good virtues.
The chief guest also unveiled the monolith of the conference and hoisted the WSSU flag.
Host of administrative and departmental officials led by Lovitoli, ADC Niuland attended the function.
Greeting the students on the occasion, Ninoto Awomi, President, Sumi Kiphimimi Kuqhakulu (SKK) encouraged the students to be trend setters of good examples.
