WSSU wants no “national, patriotic color” on Intanki Park

Dimapur, March 31 (MExN): Even while reminding the Zeliangrong students’ unions not to give “it a patriotic  or national color” in regard to the Intanki National Park dispute, the Western Sumi Students’ Union has alleged that the problem started when “Zeliangrong from Tamenglong district” migrated to Nagaland.

Objecting to the claims of the All Zeliangrong Students Union (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) and Zeliangrong Students’ Union, Nagaland, a note from WSSU president Kaino Chishi claimed that the “very genesis of this problem started because the Zeliangrong from Tamenglong district are migrating to Nagaland i.e., Intanki area to establish new village otherwise the Zeliangs from Nagaland and Sumis have been sharing border and were living peacefully.” Accusing the Zeliangrong students’ unions of ‘changing their statements,’ the WSSU also termed as “white lie” that the Sumi villages are under the protection of the NSCN-IM and that Dhansiripar sub-division is under Peren district.

The union while expressing surprise that there is no documentary or “monumental evidence” to support the claims of the Zeliangrong students, stated that “no particular land was created for any particular tribe or people and so they should not claim every land they have heard of or just because they happened to pass through t once.”  The union asserted that there are more than 160 Sumi villages in Dimapur district and “not the migrants from other districts” and also “we are inheriting our right.”

The WSSU also asked the ZSU (Nagaland) not to be influenced by vested interested individuals ‘from other states” and to the AZSU (AMN), the union advised against ‘magnifying’ the issue by giving it a “patriotic or national color.” The WSSU stated not to do anything with the latter organization and asserted to discuss and settle the matter only with the ZSU (N).
