DIMAPUR, JUNE 27 (MExN): The Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF) has issued a condemnation following the arrest of one Kiyasetuo Kengurusie by law enforcement authorities. Kengurusie was apprehended while allegedly attempting to disrupt the peaceful election process at Ward-2 of the Dimapur Municipal Council.
"We are deeply disheartened and condemn the incident," stated the WSYF in their press release. The group expressed their disappointment in learning that Kengurusie, who stood unopposed for a position on the Chephobozu Town Council in Kohima during the recent ULB Election, traveled from Chephobozu to allegedly interfere in the Dimapur election.
"While the citizens of Nagaland are yearning for positive change and various civil societies are encouraging and disseminating the significance of clean elections, we are appalled to learn through media reports that a person aspiring to be a leader in our society was caught indulging in unethical and unconventional acts," the statement continued. The WSYF emphasized that such actions are a significant concern and a wake-up call for the community to ensure proper consideration in electing leaders.
Mughaka Chophy, Vice President of WSYF, remarked, “His action clearly indicates his intention to cause undue influence in favor of one candidate, which is against election ethical practices and deserves stern condemnation by all progressive-thinking citizens.”
The WSYF called on the State Election Commission of Nagaland and other relevant authorities to conduct a thorough inquiry and take appropriate action according to the law. "This will set a precedent and act as a deterrence that will salvage the sanctity of the election process in Nagaland," Chophy added.
Additionally, the WSYF condemned the alleged unfair practices that occurred at polling station 4 under Ward 20 of the Dimapur Municipal Council, which led to the decision for a repoll. "Such practices have to be uprooted from our society, and collective effort should be made to raise the standard of our election process, which is one of the main catalysts towards the development of our state," stated Botoka Zhimo, Secretary of WSYF. The organization also appealed for free and fair participation in the scheduled repoll.
